Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, allowed the Paints to even the three game series at one in a marathon of a game on Saturday night.
The winning run came with two outs in the top of the eleventh inning when Chillicothe center fielder Jeff Vincent squeezed a bunt down the third base line that brought in Josh Blackstock.
The Wild Things had 2-1 and 8-5 leads after erasing 1-0 and 5-2 deficits, but could not fight off Chillicothe bats in the closing stretch. After taking an 8-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a Josh Eachues two-run single, the Wild Things surrendered four straight runs, including a Nathan Faulkner solo homerun that tied the game at eight in the eighth inning.
Chris Sidick nearly took back the lead in bottom of the eighth inning. He evened the score at nine with a double off the centerfield wall that brought in Drew Hoisington, but Brett Grandstrand was called out at home in an attempt to take a 10-9 lead.
Dan Horvath suffered the loss for Washington, allowing the game-winning run and three hits in two and two thirds innings of work.
The Wild Things and Paints will square off for game three Sunday Night at 6:35 p.m. before Washington hits the road for two series. The Wild Things will return to CONSOL Energy Park on July 27 to again host the Paints.
