Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

CRESTWOOD, Ill. - The Traverse City Beach Bums were doubled up by the two-time defending Frontier League Champions, falling 4-2 to the Windy City ThunderBolts on Saturday night.

The ThunderBolts struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Beach Bums starting pitcher Jason Kiley. Kiley retired the first two batters before Vinnie Scarduzio hit a solo homerun to left-center to give Windy City a 1-0 early edge. Windy City plated two unearned runs in the second to make it 3-0 as Bryan Cook reached on an error and scored on a passed ball. Tyler Farrar later scored on a sacrifice fly by Gilberto Mejia.

Brad Miller made a dent in the deficit with a one-out solo homer on the first pitch from Windy City starter Brandon Garner in the top of the third. Miller's fourth longball of the season cleared the wall in left to pull the Beach Bums within 3-1. Kyle Maunus doubled with one out in the fourth and scored on an Al Barbato double that trimmed the lead to 3-2.

Robert Perry homered for Windy City with one out in the sixth inning to account for the final margin. Jason Kiley was hit with the loss, working six innings and allowing just two earned runs. He walked one, hit two, and struck out two. Sean Hoorelbeke had a pair of hits for the Beach Bums and also walked.

The first half of the season will conclude tomorrow night with a 7:05pm game against the ThunderBolts. RHP Kevin Reese (4-2, 4.66) gets the call for the Beach Bums while Windy City will counter with LHP Dustin Pease (5-2, 5.24).
