Lowey twins topple Crushers

AVON, OH - Josh Lowey retired 14 straight hitters at one point and Jason came on for a four out save to preserve a 6-4 victory Saturday night over the Crushers. The Rascals will go for the sweep in their first half finale late tomorrow afternoon.

River City (29-17) increased their lead to 6-0 with four runs in the sixth inning. Chris Colton singled in Chad Maddox and Scott Robinson, who led off the inning with a hit by pitch and double respectively. Brian Chambers, in relief of Kevin Skogley (3-2), threw a wild pickoff attempt to first, allowing Colton to advance to third. Colton would score on a wild pitch to make it 5-0. The Rascals restarted the rally with back to back singles from Ryan Groth and Danny Sawyer, with Groth scoring on an Andy Reilly groundout.

Lake Erie (25-21) cut into the lead with two in the bottom half of the sixth against Josh Lowey (3-0). Kylee Hash singled to snap a string of 14 straight retired by Lowey. Jodem Rivera walked and Drew Saylor singled to load the bases with no one out. Andrew Davis drew a walk to plate the first run and Gordon Gronkowski beat out a potential double play ball to the second Crushers run.

Lowey was finished after six innings, allowing the two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

The Crushers made it a two run game on a two run home run by Gronkowski in the eighth against Tony Marsala. Tim Binkoski and Eddie Tisdale restarted the rally with two outs on back to back singles. Jason Lowey came on and retired Arden McWilliams to end the threat.

Lake Erie loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth against Lowey, allowing singles to Rivera and Saylor before walking Andrew Davis. Gronkowski struck out looking to end the game on a 1-2 pitch.

The Rascals opened the scoring with runs in the second and fifth innings, scoring a Groth double in the second and on a Reynolds double play ball in the fifth.

Skogley went five plus innings, leaving with an injury in the fifth. The lefty allowed ten hits and five runs with one strikeout.

Groth, Robinson, Colton and Jorge Gutierrez each had two hits with Sawyer going 3-4. Colton also drove in two runs in the win.

The Rascals will give the ball to Jake Laber (5-2) tomorrow afternoon when they wrap up the series and the first half. Jorge Charry (0-1) gets the nod for Lake Erie. First pitch is set for 4:05 p.m.
