
Wild Things Win Fifth Straight Game 9-2

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things (21-26), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, won 9-2 in tonight's game against the Evansvlle Otters (15-32).
Ernie Banks put the Wild Things on the board in the first inning with a solo homerun. The Otters tied the score 1-1 in the second inning with a pair of doubles by Greg Alexander and Cameron Satterwhite.
The Wild Things scored a total of six runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but held Evansville to only one more run on a pair of singles in the fourth, giving Washington a 7-2 lead.
In the third, Michael Parker hit a line drive triple down the first base line to score Brett Grandstrand. Phil Laurent knocked in Parker with a single. A bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Grandstrand scored Matt Sutton in the fourth.
Grant Psomas hit a two-run double in the fifth inning. Psomas, who is second in the Frontier League in RBI with 45 and second in homeruns with 15, will represent the Wild Things in the All-Star Game on Wednesday.
Jacob Dempsey hit his 13th homerun of the year, a two run shot in the seventh inning.
Winning pitcher Zach Groh (1-3) struck out eight and walked one in seven innings. Reliever Michael Lucas also had a strong outing, retiring five straight batters in the eighth and ninth innings.
The Wild Things and Otters play the final game of the series tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. before next week's All Star Break. Gates open at 5:00 and broadcast on WJPA 95.3 begins at 6:25 p.m.
