Baysox Walk off RubberDucks Again, 2-1
April 22, 2022 - Eastern League (EL)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
RubberDucks designated hitter Marcos Gonzalez hit his first home run of the season, but it was Akron's only run, and Bowie right fielder Zach Watson raced home from first base to score the winning run on left fielder Dylan Harris' ninth-inning double, giving the Baysox a second straight walk-off win and fourth straight victory, 2-1, at Prince George's Stadium Friday night.
Turning Point
In a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the ninth inning, RubberDucks right-hander Kevin Kelly hit the leadoff batter, Watson, with a 2-2 pitch. Harris then hit an 0-2 pitch down the left field, where it got past left fielder Julian Escobedo in the left-field corner. Watson sprinted home to score the winning run for the Baysox, who also won, 3-2 in 10 innings, on Thursday.
Mound Presence
RubberDucks right-hander Xzavion Curry allowed a first-inning solo home run to Bowie shortstop Gunnar Henderson, but held Bowie scoreless for the rest of his start, lasting 4 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts. Right-hander Kyle Marman pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings, and left-hander Tim Herrin pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings. The three combined to strand the potential go-ahead run in scoring position in four straight innings. Kelly relieved Herrin in the eighth and got the final out.
Duck Tales
Gonzalez led off the third inning with a home run to left field off Bowie right-hander Brandon Young. Akron put two runners on base in each of the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings but left them on base. The RubberDucks were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and the Baysox were 0-for-7.
