Akron RubberDucks News Release

Akron, OH- After dropping a couple of tough games over the weekend, the Aeros were in need of a victory with the Bowie Baysox back in town. Unfortunately, it was the same old song Monday night, as the Aeros were unable to hold the lead and dropped the series opener, 4-3 in 12 innings.

Toru Murata made his first start for the Aeros since returning from Triple-A Columbus back in late April. Murata pitched a solid game and looked especially sharp early, as he surrendered just two hits through the first five innings pitched.

Meanwhile, Akron manufactured a run in their first at bat, jumping out to an early 1-0 lead off a trio of consecutive singles by Tyler Holt, Cedric Hunter, and Jesus Aguilar. It was 35th runner brought home for RBI-machine Aguilar, who continues to lead the Eastern League in runs batted in.

The Aeros held that lead until the bottom of Baysox lineup took over the game. Second baseman Cale Iorg knotted things up in the top of the sixth inning with an opposite-field solo blast into the right field bleachers. It was Iorg's first homer of the season and helped ignite the Bowie bats.

In the seventh, Murata was able to retire the first two batters he faced, but couldn't get out of the inning unscathed. Baysox first baseman Brandon Waring reached on a single and was plated by a triple by right fielder Garabez Rosa, who promptly scored on a throwing error by Aeros' shortstop, Ronny Rodriguez. With Bowie leading 3-1, Murata's night was over, as the right-hander gave up two earned runs, while was punching-out eight over seven complete innings.

The Baysox received four innings out of starter Tim Bascom, who gave up just one run off four hits in his first start of the season. From there, righties Eric Beaulac and Clay Schrader were able to combine for four innings, giving up one run earned run and scattering just two hits between the two.

But the Aeros showed their resiliency in dramatic fashion, tying the game up in the bottom of the ninth with two men out.

Aguilar got the rally started with a one-out walk and was later brought home by an RBI-single by catcher Roberto Perez, to cut the lead to 3-2. Rodriguez followed with a big infield single and plated Latimore, who had the wherewithal to round third and scored to tie the game at 3-3.

However in the end, Bowie would prevail on a gut-wrenching Brian Ward solo homer off Aeros reliever Bryce Stowell in the top of the 11th. Akron made things interesting in the bottom half of the inning after Holt just missed a homerun to center field by a couple of inches. Newcomer Hunter flew out to right field to end the game and was unable to bring home Holt at third.

Akron has now lost three straight and seven of its last 10.

The Aeros will continue the four-game series Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m., against the Bowie Baysox. RHP Mike Wright (5-0. 3.70) will start for Bowie, while RHP Jordan Cooper (1-1, 4.26) will take the hill for Akron. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1350 AM, and online at www.sportsradio1350.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at 330-253-5151.
