Reading Fightin Phils News Release

READING, Pa.---The Reading Fightin Phils (16-26) bested the Altoona Curve (19-25), 6-3, Monday night at FirstEnergy Stadium led by a trio of home runs from Cameron Rupp, Edgar Duran, and Jim Murphy and a stellar outing from Seth Rosin.

Rosin bounced back from his last outing where he allowed five runs in four innings and took charge in the longest start of his career. The Golden Gophers product skimmed through the beginning of the game, retiring 11 of the first 13 batters he faced. It didn't come until the fourth inning where Rosin gave up his first run, a two-out solo home run by Jarek Cunningham. In the fifth, he let in his second run of the game when Mel Rojas Jr., who tripled to lead off, scored on a ground out.

The run ended up being his last as the righty struck out five of the six batters he faced in the sixth and seventh innings. His finished with a career-high eight strikeouts in eight innings and went on to pick up his second win of the season.

Rosin received some run support thanks to some clutch hitting from the Fightins. The team strung together three runs with two outs in the first inning after Tommy Mendonca doubled over Rojas in centerfield. He then scored in the next at-bat when Jim Murphy singled for his first RBI of the night. Rupp topped off the first inning and added to the lead with a two-run home run to left field.

The Fightins scored big again in the fifth inning with two outs when shortstop Edgar Duran splashed a two-run home run into the right field pool to score Albert Cartwright, who walked. Murphy put the finishing touch on the Fightins' victory in the eighth inning by going yard for tenth time this season.

Reliever Tyler Knigge came on in the ninth and surrendered a Adalberto Santos solo home run, but preserved the lead in his 15th appearance of the season.

The Fightins look for their second win in a row on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. LHP Jesse Biddle (2-3, 2.95 ERA) faces major league rehabber Charlie Morton. Tune into Oldies 1340 WRAW-AM or MiLB.TV for the game broadcast with Fightins play-by-play announcer Anthony Oppermann starting at 6:05 p.m.
