New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The Binghamton Mets came out swinging Monday night, putting up four runs in the first two innings against starter LHP Pat Dean and defeated the Rock Cats in the series opener 6-3 at New Britain Stadium. Mets OF Allan Dykstra led the offense driving in four runs and helping send the Rock Cats to their 8th straight loss.

Four straight hits in the opening frame accounted for three Mets runs, including a two-run Home Run by Dykstra. A Josh Rodriguez RBI double in the next frame would add on to the visitor's lead.

New Britain would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Deibinson Romero led off the inning with a solo homerun. The blast was Romero's second of the season and second in as many days.

The spotlight was on Dykstra once again with two men on during the top of the fifth and he answered with a double that cleared the bases, bringing the score to 6-1.

The 'Cats would chip away during the bottom of the sixth, getting runs from a Josmil Pinto double and a Mark Sobolewski single. Pinto's RBI brought his season total to 34 and keeps him tied as the Eastern League leader in that category.

B-Mets starter RHP Logan Verrett went six innings, scattering nine hits and limiting New Britain to the three runs while striking out ten and walking none. RHP Jeff Walters earned his twelfth save in thirteen opportunities.

New Britain and Binghamton will play the second of four Tuesday evening. The Rock Cats will send RHP Trevor May to the bump and he will face RHP Jacob deGrom. Game time is 6:35 p.m.
