Baysox Bounce Back to Win in Extras

Curve, PA - After scoring a season high seven runs in the third inning, the Bowie Baysox (60-55) needed 10 innings to beat the Altoona Curve (54-61) 9-8 on Tuesday night.

After the Baysox had given up the lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, they came right back out and got a run in the 10th. Manny Machado hit a one-out triple and then scored on an RBI single by Caleb Joseph.

The Baysox broke the game open early on with a seven-run third inning. They loaded up the bases with no one out and then Josh Barfield got the scoring started with a two-run double. Jonathan Schoop followed with an RBI single and with the bases loaded back up Rhyne Hughes hit a sac fly. After a walk to Machado, Ty Kelly broke the game open with a bases clearing double that made the score 7-0.

Quincy Latimore got the Curve on the board in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run to make the score 7-1.

In the fourth inning the Curve struck for three more runs. With two on and no outs, Oscar Tejeda hit a ground rule double to knock in the first run of the inning. Stefan Welch followed with an RBI single. Then with runners at the corners Jarek Cunningham hit into a double play that scored the final run of the inning to make the score 7-4.

The Baysox got a run back in the fifth. Hughes led off with a single and went to second on a balk. Then with two outs in the inning Joseph hit and RBI single to make the score 8-4.

Matt Curry answered right back in the bottom of the inning with a two-out, two-run double to cut the lead to 8-6.

The Curve sent the game to extras in the ninth when Ramon Cabera hit a two-run double with two outs to tie up the score at 8-8.

Chris Petrini gave up the runs in the ninth inning, but still got the win. He threw 4.1 innings and allowed two runs on two hits. He also struck out eight batters which is the most for any Baysox pitcher this season.

Mike Belfiore then pitched a scoreless 10th with two strikeouts to pick up the save.

Hunter Strickland gave up the run in the 10th to get the loss.

Tomorrow in game three of the series RHP Eddie Gamboa (4-4, 3.22) will go up against RHP Kyle McPherson (3-5, 4.07).

The Baysox are on a seven-game homestand and will return home on Tuesday, August 14th for a four game, three day series against Erie that begins with a doubleheader.
