Oswaldo Arcia Named July Player of the Month

Portland, ME The Eastern League is pleased to announce that New Britain Rock Cats outfielder Oswaldo Arcia has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of July. Oswaldo batted .354 (34-for-96) with six doubles, two triples, four home runs, 25 RBI, 23 runs scored, one stolen base, a .426 on-base percentage and a .583 slugging percentage in 26 games during the month for the Rock Cats. The 21-year old reached base in 21 games during the month, had 12 multiple hit games and drove in or scored at least one run 16 times. Among those multiple hit games was a 3-for-5 performance in which he hit a pair of home runs and drove in six runs while leading the Rock Cats to a 13-2 victory at Harrisburg on July 19th. Arcia, who is a native of Anaco, Venezuela, ranked first among all Eastern League players in RBI (25) and OPS (1.009) last month. He also finished among the monthly league leaders in slugging percentage (.583-3rd), triples (2-tied 3rd), batting average (.354-4th), runs scored (23-4th), hits (34-tied 7th), on-base percentage (.426-tied 7th) and total bases (56-tied 9th).

The 6'0", 210 lb. slugger, who was rated by MLB.com as the third best prospect in the Twins organization entering this season, started the 2012 campaign as a member of the Fort Myers Miracle and earned a mid-June promotion to New Britain by hitting .309 with 16 doubles, three triples, seven homers, 31 RBI and 22 runs scored in 55 games in the Florida State League. He has continued that strong performance in his Double-A debut with the Rock Cats, batting .312 with 10 doubles, five home runs, 36 RBI and 36 runs scored in 42 games.

Oswaldo, who was named to the World Team for the 2012 MLB Futures Game in Kansas City and went 1-for-2 with an RBI double, was signed by the Minnesota Twins as a non-drafted free agent on July 4, 2007.
