
Bats Win in Extra, 5-4

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Louisville Bats defeated the Rochester Red Wings in extra innings, 5-4. The 12-inning affair was Louisville's longest game since May 6. Carlos Triunfel hit a three-run homer to put the Bats ahead in the fifth, and a single in the 12th by Hernan Irribarren proved to be the game-winning hit.
Louisville right-hander Keyvius Sampson (2-3, 2.06) pitched six shutout innings allowing only one hit, walking two, and striking out four.
Jumbo Diaz (1-1, 0.75) earned his first win of the season, pitching two and one-third innings, striking out three. Diaz pitched his longest outing since August 21, 2015 with the Reds.
The Bats were the first on the board when Iribarren scored on a single by Steve Selsky in the third inning to put the Bats up 1-0.
Carlos Triunfel hit a three-run home run that scored Berset and Iribarren to push the Bats lead to 4-0. The homer was one of three Triunfel hits on the night.
The Red Wings tied the game up at four in the seventh with a three run double by John Ryan Murphy and a single by Jorge Polanco, both hits off Louisville reliever Drew Hayes.
Chris Berset walked to open the 12th, with Iribarren driving in pinch-runner Bryson Smith on a single to center to give the Bats a 5-4 lead. Jumbo Diaz struck out the side to secure the win for Louisville and their return to a .500 record (37-37).
The Bats will try and take the series tomorrow night against the Rochester Red Wings. Right-hander Jon Moscot (3-3, 5.73) will be on the mound for the Bats. The Red Wings will counter with left-hander Andrew Albers (6-1, 3.36). First pitch tomorrow night will be at 7:05 p.m. in Rochester.
