LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats snapped a season-high eight-game losing streak in dramatic fashion as they defeated the Columbus Clippers 6-5 on Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

Louisville catcher Tucker Barnhart started the ninth with a leadoff single and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by third baseman Hernan Iribarren. Centerfielder Jason Bourgeois then hit a ground-rule double down the right field line to score Barnhart and secure the win in walk-off fashion.

A back-and-forth game saw the Bats come to the plate in the bottom of the eighth trailing 5-4. However, the club was able to avoid testing its 3-46 record when trailing after eight innings after a passed ball issued to catcher Chris Wallace allowed pinch-runner Juan Silverio to score from third and tie the game.

Right-hander Elvin Ramirez (2-2, 3.86), who ultimately earned the win, then pitched out of a jam in the top of the ninth as he forced centerfielder Tyler Holt to line out softly to second baseman Donnie Murphy and leave the go-ahead run at third base.

Left-hander David Holmberg pitched arguably his best outing of the season but did not factor into the decision after right-hander Pedro Villarreal entered the game in the eighth and allowed Columbus to take the lead. Holmberg pitched into the eighth inning, his longest outing of the season, and allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits with no walks and no strikeouts. The southpaw threw 92 pitches, 72 of which were for strikes.

Opposite Holmberg, Columbus right-hander Tyler Cloyd allowed four earned runs on eight hits with no walks and one strikeout in six innings of work. He, like Holmberg, did not factor into the decision as Columbus right-hander Vinnie Pestano (2-4, 3.74) suffered the loss.

Offensively, Louisville was led by Major League rehabber Jack Hannahan, who entered the game hitting 1-for-18 in his previous five starts but went 4-for-4 with two doubles, one run scored and one run batted in.

The Bats will look to split the four-game series with the Clippers tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Louisville right-hander Brett Marshall (0-6, 9.10) will look to earn his first win as he takes the mound to face Columbus righty Toru Murata (0-2, 6.40).
