Louisville Bats News Release

Louisville, KY - A strong pitching performance by newly-promoted Daryl Thompson led the Louisville Bats to a 5-1 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Monday evening, helping Louisville close out the series with three wins in four games.

Thompson (2-0, 0.64), who pitched seven innings without allowing an earned run in his Bats debut on May 28th, again threw seven strong innings, this time giving up six hits and one earned run, while striking out six and walking none.

Through the first four innings, the game was a pitcher's duel between Thompson and Lehigh Valley starter Gary Knotts (1-1, 3.76), as neither team got a runner past first base. Louisville got their offense going in the fifth inning, however, when Chris Dickerson smashed a double to right field that scored Ryan Hanigan, who had reached on his second walk of the night. Dickerson, who blasted the game-tying home run last night in the bottom of the ninth, reached base three times in the game and extended his team-high hitting streak to five games. Later in the inning, Thompson earned his first RBI as a Louisville Bat when he scored Dickerson with a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-0 game.

After the IronPigs narrowed the contest to 2-1 in the top half of the sixth, Louisville played add-on in the bottom half of the inning, when Drew Anderson hit a broken-bat single to left that scored Andy Green. Luis Bolivar drew a bases loaded walk later in the frame to stretch the lead to 4-1.

Anderson added a two-out, solo home run in the eighth inning to give the Bats the final 5-1 margin. For the Kearney, Nebraska native, it was his third homer of the season and second in the last three days.

Danny Herrera and Jon Adkins each pitched one inning of scoreless relief to help preserve the win for Louisville.

The Bats will begin a crucial four-game set with the division leading Toledo Mud Hens on Tuesday evening at 7:05 PM at Louisville Slugger Field. Toledo, who is one game ahead of Louisville in the IL West standings, will send LHP Casey Fossum (3-0, 1.96) to the mound, while the Bats will counter with LHP Matt Maloney (6-2, 4.09), who has not lost in five starts.
