Bats Fall to Braves, 4-3 in 13 Innings

LOUISVILLE, Ky - The Louisville Bats (32-33) fell 4-3 to the Gwinnett Braves (31-32) in 13 innings Monday night.

The Braves pushed across a couple runs early in the game on an RBI single by catcher Christian Bethancourt in the first inning and a solo home run to left field by Eric Young Jr in the second inning.

The Bats and Braves went four scoreless innings before right-hander Alex White exited the game for Gwinnett. He pitched five innings, gave up just three hits, no runs, walked a batter and struck out three. Relieving him was former Louisville Bat, righty Kanekoa Texeira.

Yorman Rodriguez hit his sixth home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh cutting the Braves lead in half, 2-1.

Left-hander David Holmberg finished his outing after seven innings. He gave up 10 hits, two earned runs, walked one and struck out two. Righty Sam LeCure came in relief in the eighth inning for Louisville.

The Bats tied up the ballgame late in the eighth inning, 2-2, as Jose Constanza grounded into a double play that allowed pinch hitter, Ryan LaMarre to score.

The ballgame went to 13 innings until the Braves took the lead on a two-run single by Eury Perez. The Bats tried to rally, and scored one run, but left the bases loaded and fell, 4-3.

The loss went to Nick Christiani (L, 0-2, 4.62) who tied Brian Shackelford for the most games pitched for Louisville with 177. Earning the win for Gwinnett was Aaron Kurcz (W, 3-3, 3.00) and Ryan Weber (S, 1) earned his first save of the season.

Tomorrow the Bats and Braves will play the second of a three-game set, starting at 7:05 p.m. Louisville will send righty Donovan Hand (1-3, 4.50) to the mound and Gwinnett righty Manny Banuelos (5-1, 2.19) will toe the rubber for the Braves.
