Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (43-63) completed the three-game sweep against the Scranton Wilkes/Barre RailRiders (60-45) Sunday afternoon at Louisville Slugger Field. The win improved the Bats' season record against the RailRiders to 5-1 in the six total matchups, during which Louisville has hit an astounding 19 homeruns.
It only took two pitches for the Bats to get off to a good start, as Narciso Crook sent an 0-1 pitch deep to the opposite field for a leadoff homerun, his eighth longball of the season. The opening shot was the fourth leadoff homerun of the season for the Bats, and the second for Crook.
Immediately following two walks to lead off the bottom of the third, Aristides Aquino capitalized on the free baserunners and sent his 28th homerun of the season 430 feet over the concourse in left field and bouncing on Preston Street outside the stadium to extend the lead to 4-0. The big fly also extended Aquino's homerun streak to four straight games, the first time that such a streak has ever been accomplished in Bats history.
After the RailRiders were able to plate two runs in the fourth inning, thanks to a two-RBI double from Francisco Arcia, and a third run from a Trey Amburgey solo shot in the sixth, the Bats would take Scranton/WB pitching deep yet again. After Chadwick Tromp was hit by a pitch high off of the shoulder, Narciso Crook would also capitalize on a free baserunner, and send his second homerun of the game, and ninth of the season, to left-center field landing on the grassy berm. The multi-homer game from a single player is the 20th time the Bats have had such a game, extending their league lead in the category.
The Bats would tack on one more insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning, thanks to a Chadwick Tromp solo homerun to push the lead to the final score of 7-3. Jimmy Herget would be credited with his second win of the campaign after throwing two relief innings allowing only one earned run on one hit with a walk and a strikeout. Chance Adams was charged with the loss after going 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on five hits, with five walks and seven strikeouts.
Louisville will hit the road to start a four-game road trip, with the first two games scheduled to take place in Toledo against the Detroit Tigers' Triple-A affiliate Mud Hens. Game one's first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Monday and will pit Bats righty Vladimir Gutierrez (2-9, 6.96) against Toledo's southpaw Matt Hall (5-3, 4.85).
