Indianapolis Indians News Release

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Despite a five-run rally led by two Pablo Reyes extra-base hits, a double to score the Tribe's first run and a solo homer to bring them within one in the ninth, the Indians couldn't catch Rochester in a 6-5 loss to end the series.

Indy's offense was no-hit through the first 5.1 innings with only one baserunner. Five of its six hits came in the final three innings, including Ke'Bryan Hayes' seventh home run of the season and Reyes' 10th.

Rochester (52-54) benefitted from the long ball early, taking a 2-0 lead on solo home runs in the first and second innings. Its next hit didn't come until the fifth inning when Zander Wiel tripled down the left field line, and two pitches later he was brought home on a groundout for the three-run lead.

Steven Baron earned the Tribe's first hit of the game with one out in the sixth inning, a soft infield single, but the offense followed with two groundouts. In the bottom half of the inning, the Red Wings responded with their third home run of the game, a two-out, two-run shot to left field by Jake Cave to extend the score to 5-0.

The Indians (53-52) put together a rally in the seventh. With two on and no outs, Reyes doubled to put the Tribe on the board and set up runners on second and third. Trayvon Robinson cut the deficit to 5-2 on a one-out groundout to the right side, but the rally was cut short when JB Shuck was picked off at first base to end the inning.

Hayes continued the offensive work in the eighth inning. With one out and Cole Tucker on first base, he roped a home run into the right field corner to bring the Tribe within one, 5-4.

The Red Wings led off their half of the eighth with a triple, and Drew Maggi was brought in on a sacrifice fly to give them the insurance run that would prove to be the difference. Reyes' home run to left field brought the Tribe within one again, but with two on and two out, the offense fell short of tying the game.

Brandon Waddell (L, 1-3) made his first Triple-A start since Sept. 1, 2018 and went six innings, allowing five runs on four hits with six strikeouts. Jake Brentz came in relief and allowed Rochester's final run in the eighth.

Two of the Tribe runs came off of Red Wings starter Randy Dobnak (W, 3-1), who earned both of the seventh innings runs. Preston Guilmet (S, 7) shut down the threat in the ninth after allowing a home run and walking two batters.

The Indians return to Victory Field tomorrow night to kick off a two-game set against IL West leading Columbus. James Marvel (3-0, 1.90) takes the mound to try and extend his 12.0 inning scoreless streak vs. RHP Shao-Ching Chiang (6-7, 5.55) in a 7:05 p.m. ET start.
