Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

One inning was all it took for the fortunes to sway in the Winnipeg Goldeyes' favour.

The Goldeyes (9-5) reached double-digit hits for the first time in four games and scored six runs in the final three innings to beat the Lincoln Saltdogs (6-8) 8-5 Thursday night at Shaw Park before 4,567 vocal fans at Shaw Park.

"You're able to build a lot of momentum," Goldeyes infielder Tyler Kuhn said of the back-to-back hits in the second half of the game. "We were able to hit with runners in scoring position tonight, which was huge."

After Lincoln scored singles in each of the first three innings, Winnipeg broke the shutout in the bottom of the third inning when Jake Blackwood's sac fly scored Kuhn.

Two innings later, and down 4-2, Ryan Pineda singled to lead off the bottom of the fifth and came around to score on a Kuhn double.

The Goldeyes finally took the lead in the fifth inning. Josh Mazzola led off with a double and scored two batters later when Reggie Abercrombie hit a massive home run to left field, tying the game 4-4. Luis Alen and Kuhn each added RBI singles to give Winnipeg a 6-4 lead.

"We've been working really hard in the cage," Mazzola said. "There's been a few guys struggling and going through the same things. Once everyone starts rolling, it's going to be a really pretty thing for us."

After Chris Anderson hit a solo home run for Lincoln in the eighth, Blackwood stroked a double down the third base line to drive in two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Gabe Aguilar came into the game in the fifth inning and tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for his third win of the season, while Chris Kissock pitched the ninth inning for his fourth save of the season. Jake Meiers, who was on the hook for Winnipeg's four runs in the sixth inning, took the loss for Lincoln.

At the plate, Kuhn finished a home run short of the cycle and drove in two runs. Abercrombie also had three hits and two RBI, while Blackwood had three RBI.

The rematch goes Friday night at Shaw Park. Chris Salamida (1-0, 9.00) will take the ball for Winnipeg against Lincoln's Nick Green (0-1, 4.50.) Game time is 7 p.m.
