Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
FARGO, ND - Fighting back from three run deficits on two occasions, the Canaries kept the game close but were never able to take the lead and fell to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 8-7 Wednesday night. The deciding run of the game was scored on CJ Retherford's bunt single off of Kirk Clark with two outs in the bottom of the 9th and the Canaries were shaking their heads after another heartbreaking loss in Fargo.
Kyle Ruwe struggled early on for the Canaries, giving up three runs in each of the 2nd and 3rd innings, but ultimately settled in and found a groove en route to a gutsy eight inning performance on 122 pitches. Ruwe gave the Canaries a chance to claw their way back into the game and they did, eventually tying it at 7 in the 8th inning.
Shelby Ford hit a solo homerun in the 5th and drove in four runs in all while hitting in the cleanup spot for the first time this season. Kevin Dultz added three hits and Carlos Mendez had two. Brandon Jones extended his hitting streak to 13 to start the season. The Canaries left the bases loaded in the 5th and 8th innings and those runs left on the table proved to be costly.
The Canaries return to The Birdcage Thursday night at 7:05 PM for an eight-game homestand beginning with four games against the Kansas City T-Bones. A free kids ticket comes with the purchase of any adult ticket in the upper or lower reserved sections to any of the eight games. Enjoy $1 beers from 6 PM until first pitch and $2.50 beers during the game. The fun continues with postgame fireworks on Friday, live music on Saturday and Macy's Day at the Ballpark Sunday. Tickets are available at the box office, by calling 605-336-6060 or viaTicketMaster .
