Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

The Amarillo Sox were shut out for the first time of the 2014 season Thursday, as they dropped the opener of a four-game series with the Grand Prairie AirHogs 9-0 in front of 1,546 fans at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.

The AirHogs scored in the top of the first on a two-out, two-run double by Andres Rodriguez to score Palmer Karr and Jason Botts. Grand Prairie added to their lead in the third on a solo home run by Palmer Karr, and Eric Baker hit an RBI single in the fourth to make it 4-0 AirHogs.

Amarillo would threaten offensively in the first three innings, as five different Sox players had hits. But the Sox would leave four runners on base in those innings. Amarillo wouldn't have another hit until Tommy Barksdale led off the ninth inning with a double as a pinch-hitter.

Grand Prairie would break the game open in the top of the fifth with a four-run attack. Jason Botts hit a two-run home run to make it 6-0, and Brandon Pinckney and Eric Baker produced RBIs to make it 8-0 after five. Jason Botts added an RBI groundout in the top of the sixth to make it 9-0.

Logan Williamson gave up seven earned runs in six innings to take the loss for Amarillo. Ryan Searle threw six scoreless innings for the win, and Brandon Wilkerson went the rest of the way for a three-inning save. Amarillo falls to 7-7 on the season, while Grand Prairie improves to 5-9. Game two of the series is Friday night. It will also be a complimentary cap giveaway, courtesy of Barker Bariatric Center. First pitch will be at 7:05.
