Birmingham Barons News Release

The Barons took their second consecutive loss at the hands of the Smokies 10-4.

Birmingham scored first off an Alex Destino single to bring in Lenyn Sosa, who led the first inning off with a double. Chase Strumpf answered the call quickly for Tennessee with a solo shot in the next half inning. It was just the second long ball allowed by Felix Paulino this year.

With the promotion of Davis Martin to AAA Charlotte, Paulino made his first start of the season. The righty finished with five runs allowed in 3.2 IP.

After the Strumpf home run, Paulino conceded another run in the third inning when Nelson Velazquez went yard. Then came the three-run fourth inning. Levi Jordan ripped an RBI single, and was eventually brought home by Luis Vazquez's single, alongside Andy Weber.

Garrett Davila extinguished the fire by finishing the fourth, and pitching hitless fifth and sixth innings, his best outing of the season.

Edgar Navarro then came in for the seventh in his Barons debut. Fresh off a call-up from A+ Winston Salem, Navarro gave up two triples to bring in another run.

In the eighth inning, Craig Dedelow sent his team-best sixth home run of the season over the left field wall. That made it 6-4.

The Smokies erupted in the ninth with four more runs to bring the score to its final.

Tomorrow, Birmingham will start Kaleb Roper (0-2, 7.36). Riley Thompson (0-0, 2.25) ‚¬â€¹ gets the nod for Tennessee with a 7:05 CT first pitch.
