Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Daniel Barone collected his seventh-straight victory, dealing 6.2 innings of one-run baseball to lead the Albuquerque Isotopes (56-57) to a 3-1 victory over the Salt Lake Bees (59-55) Friday night at Isotopes Park.

Barone (7-0) maintained his perfect record on the season and tied a franchise record for consecutive wins, previously set by Sean Bergman in the team's inaugural 2003 season. The victory was Albuquerque's first of the series, after the Bees took each of the first two games.

Barone surrendered just a run in the outing, leaving the game with two away in the seventh inning. He scattered seven hits, walked just one and punched out a season-high eight batters.

After Barone's exit, the ‘Topes bullpen didn't disappoint. Nate Field struck out the final batter of the seventh inning, then Roy Corcoran worked two hitless innings to pick up his eighth save of the season.

Salt Lake starter Jonathon Rouwenhorst (9-7) was the tough-luck loser, throwing all eight innings and allowing just three runs. Rouwenhorst surrendered six hits, recording seven Ks and issuing two free passes.

The ‘Topes took an early lead and would never trail. In the first, Robert Andino worked a lead-off walk and advanced to second on a Reggie Abercrombie single. Two batters later, Andino moved to third on a Valentino Pascucci walk and then would come around to score the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by Scott Seabol.

In the fourth, the Isotopes struck again. Albuquerque strung together three-straight hits, capped by an RBI single off the bat of Jason Phillips, which chased home Seabol from second base for a 2-0 ‘Topes advantage.

In the fifth, Salt Lake did its first and only damage to Barone's line. After Bobby Wilson drew a one-out walk, Adam Pavkovich reached on a groundball that was nearly a double play. One batter later, Pavkovich stole second and scored on a Tommy Murphy single to pull the Bees to within a run at 2-1.

The game remained that way until the seventh when Albuquerque pushed across a big insurance run. With two away and a man on second, Josh Labandeira smacked an RBI double to right, scoring Eric Reed and making the score 3-1. From there, the game belonged to Corcoran, who authored back-to-back 1-2-3 innings to preserve the victory for the Isotopes.

The four-game series between the ‘Topes and Bees comes to a close on Saturday night at Isotopes Park. Kenny Baugh (5-7, 6.78) takes the ball for Albuquerque, while Salt Lake turns to Pedro Liriano (4-11, 5.85). First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM and the game will be followed by another exciting fireworks show, presented by Wienerschnitzel.
