Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - Cody Ransom and Mark Saccomanno belted back-to-back homeruns for the second time in three games, but it wasn't enough to help Round Rock overcome Colorado Springs' five-run eighth inning Friday.

Chance Douglass tossed six shutout innings, mixing six hits and three walks, four strikeouts but Jared Gothreaux gave up a 1-0 lead in the seventh and Paul Estrada allowed five runs, including a Seth Smith grand slam, in the eighth as the Express fell 7-3 at The Dell Diamond.

Ransom cranked his fifth home run in four games to lead off the ninth, and Saccomanno followed suit with another blast off Sky Sox reliever Mike Gallo, who retired the next three batters to give Colorado Springs its first win in three games against the Express this season.

After hammering Colorado Springs for 17 runs on 25 hits over the first two of a four-game series, Round Rock scraped out six hits, including four against 21-year-old Franklin Morales. In his Triple-A debut, Morales allowed one run and struck out seven on five walks.

Relying heavily on a fastball that touched 95-mph, Morales held the Express to three hits over the first five innings. But in the sixth, Round Rock finally struck.

Cody Ransom - three homers, eight RBI over the first two games - drew a one-out walk in his third at-bat of the night. With two down and Humberto Quintero at the plate, Round Rock turned the hit-and-run on.

With Ransom sprinting for second, Quintero lifted a shot to left-centerfield. Thirdbase coach Danny Sheaffer waved Ransom, who beat the throw home to give the Express the game's first run. Quintero was caught leaning off the bag on the play.

Notable: The Express drew 10,586 fans to Friday's game, putting the team past the 500,000 mark with a month left to play. Round Rock has surpassed 600,000 fans in each of its eight seasons in minor league baseball.
