Chicago Dogs News Release
LINCOLN, Neb. - Keon Barnum made it three homers in three days, and the rest of the offense piled it on as the Chicago Dogs cruised past the Lincoln Saltdogs, 8-1, on Wednesday night at Haymarket Park.
D.J. Snelten (W, 6-3) turned in his third straight of seven or more innings with one earned run allowed, while also notching a season-high 10 strikeouts.
The Dogs broke a scoreless deadlock in the fourth in explosive fashion. After two quick outs by Saltdogs starter John Brownell (L, 6-5), Mitchell Kranson singled in Trey Vavra to make it 1-0 Chicago. Kranson then scored on an error by catcher Daniel Herrera to double up the score. David Olmedo-Barrerra drove in Tony Rosselli with a double to add another run, and with the bases loaded, Keon Barnum struck again: His 26th home run of the year, a grand slam, put an exclamation mark on the seven-run frame.
Lincoln's Nick Schulz took Snelten deep in the fifth with a solo shot to put the Saltdogs on the board, 7-1. It was one of only two hits he gave up on the night, a season low.
But Victor Roache got that run right back in the top of the seventh inning with a solo homer, his first since August 3rd.
Daniel Hurtado and Jalen Miller combined for four strikeouts in two perfect frames of relief to close out the contest.
Chicago played error-free baseball in the contest, making it a clean series defensively.
The Dogs head to Winnipeg on Thursday for three games against the Goldeyes. Jake Dahlberg (6-6) will get the start for Chicago opposite righty Joel Seddon (2-4) for Winnipeg.
