Chicago Dogs News Release
SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Keon Barnum blasted two home runs to back an offensive explosion by the Chicago Dogs as they defeated the Sioux City Explorers, 11-4, on Tuesday night.
In a complete team effort, Every Dog recorded at least one hit to support a solid start from Austin Wright (W, 4-5). The Schaumburg native finished with three earned runs on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts over 5.2 frames.
Chicago got on the board quickly, with the first four batters of the game coming around to score. David Olmedo-Barrera singled to lead off the game, extending his hit streak to 17 games. Two batters later, Trey Vavra drove in the first run of the ballgame on a single to put the Dogs up 1-0.
Keon Barnum immediately followed it up with his team-leading 14th home run, a three-run bomb to right-center to make it 4-0 Dogs in the first.
The Dogs added to their lead in the top of the fourth. After Barnum was intentionally walked to put two men aboard, Victor Roache drove in Vavra with a double, and Mitchell Kranson drove in Barnum and Roache with a single to make it 7-0 in favor of Chicago.
Sioux City scratched across a run in the bottom of the fourth on a Dexture McCall sacrifice fly.
Keon Barnum mashed a solo shot in the sixth, his second bomb of the day, to make it 8-1.
Explorers second baseman Drew Stankiewicz drove in two with a single in the bottom half of the frame to cut into the Dogs lead, 8-3, ending the night for Wright.
The seventh inning saw Edwin Arroyo launch his second homer of the season, a three-run blast, and the Dogs lead to 11-3. Through two games in the series, Arroyo is batting a remarkable 7-for-9 at the plate.
After Casey Crosby tossed 1.1 scoreless frames, the newly-acquired Justin Goossen-Brown made his professional baseball debut. The San Diego State grad tossed a scoreless, hitless eighth inning and ultimately finished with one earned run allowed on three hits over two innings.
LHP D.J. Snelten (4-2) will start the series finale on Tuesday across from Pete Tago (0-1). First pitch is scheduled for 7:12 PM at Lewis & Clark Park.
