Lancaster Stormers News Release

Friday night's loss to the York Revolution was clear evidence that clouds do have silver linings.

York lefty Logan Williamson and a trio of relievers checked the Barnstormers on four hits on Friday night in a 3-1 Revolution victory.

During the game, the Barnstormers lost both shortstop Lance Zawadzki and third baseman Luke Hughes to injuries, though neither is expected to miss much time.

Lancaster's silver lining was the realization that Anderson Feliz appears to be more than a capable backup at the shortstop spot.

York broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning. Bryan Pounds and Nick Ferdinand stroked consecutive pitches from Dan Osterbrock (3-4) into left field with one out in the inning. After Brandon Boggs lined to deep right for the second out, Andres Perez rode a 3-2 pitch off the signs in left for a two-run double. Yeicok Calderon worked out a walk to fill in first base. Luis De La Cruz smacked a grounder up the middle, and Zawadzki made a tremendous diving stop to save a run. Instead of trying to make a backhanded flip to second base, however, Zawadzki was left on the ground, writhing in pain. The shortstop had to be helped off the field. Shannon Wilkerson lined to center to close the inning.

Lancaster's only offense against Williamson came when Kevin Rivers rocked a 3-2 pitch out of the yard to right center leading off the bottom of the fifth. That was quickly countered by a Ferdinand homer to left opening the sixth inning. York threatened to score more in the sixth, but Feliz made a diving stop in the hole at shortstop and threw out De La Cruz to cut back the Revs offense.

Williamson (2-3) worked seven innings, yielding four hits and the one run. The left-hander walked none and struck out seven. He also drilled Hughes with a pitch in the sixth inning. Lancaster's third baseman was forced to leave by the ninth with Keith Castillo taking over the hot corner.

Both bullpens threw perfect outings. Pete Andrelczyk retired all six batters he faced, and Kyle Simon retired the side in order in the ninth. Mike DeMark, who was injured in a collision with Yusuke Kajimoto at first base, got only that out. Stephen Penney retired the next two, and Josh Judy worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his eighth save.

Lancaster will send Bryan Woodall (1-4) to the mound on Saturday against right-hander Anthony Lerew (3-3). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com, the I Heart Radio cell phone app at 6:45 or the Barnstormers ustream feed at 7:00.

NOTES: Zawadzki sustained a dislocated knee and left the ballpark under his own power after the game...He is out day-to-day...Juan Apodaca doubled in the seventh inning, stretching a hitting streak to six games...Barnstormers relievers have combined to throw 13 1/3 straight scoreless innings...Lancaster will sign and activate infielder Wilson Batista on Saturday...The club will also reactivate Woodall and place Osterbrock and catcher Dan Coury on the inactive list.
