Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Central Islip, NY - June 19, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (20-33) fell to the Long Island Ducks (36-17) 6-2 in the opening game of a four game Father's Day weekend wraparound series at Bethpage Ballpark on Friday night. Long Island improves to 17-1 in the month of June.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Mike Antonini (3-5) suffered the tough-luck loss, pitching six and one-third innings, allowing four runs (no earned runs) on five hits, walking one and striking out three. Long Island Starting Pitcher John Brownell (6-1) earned the victory tossing eight solid innings, giving up one run on just four hits, walking two and striking out seven, while surrendering one home run. It was Brownell's third win of the season in four game starts against the 'Fish.

Bridgeport took the early lead in the top half of the third inning off Brownell on a solo home run to left field by Matt Wessinger with one out, his first big fly in a Bluefish uniform. The Ducks would take the lead in the bottom half of the seventh inning, sending eight batters to the plate, scoring four runs on three hits. Antonini walked Randy Ruiz to start the inning, after having retired nine consecutive batters prior. Cody Puckett reached on a throwing error by Frazier Hall, and the rally was on for Long Island. With three ducks on the pond, Prentice Redman laced a line drive off of Antonini, who recovered but then threw too high to his battery mate Jobduan Morales. The second error of the inning scored Randy Ruiz with the tying run and Cody Puckett with the lead run. A sacrifice fly by Dan Lyons made it 3-1 in favor of the home team, and Reegie Corona's two-out run-scoring triple gave the Ducks the 4-1 edge. Bridgeport threatened in the top of the ninth inning, as Jake Luce belted an opposite-field RBI double to left, scoring Jobduan Morales, who walked earlier in the inning, extending his on-base streak to 11 consecutive games, but that was all the 'Fish had left in the tank as they were defeated 6-2. John Alonso and Wessinger led the way with two hits each for Bridgeport.

The 2015 Ferry Cup Series continues tomorrow night with game two of the four game set beginning at 6:35 p.m. The Bluefish return to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday, June 23rd, when they host the Camden Riversharks to begin a brief three-game homestand in the Park City.
