Iowa Barnstormers News Release
DES MOINES - The 2009 Midwest Division Champion Iowa Barnstormers are proud to announce that Offensive/Defensive Lineman Charles Johnson has been named to the af2 All-Ironman team. The results were announced Thursday afternoon at the af2 league office in Chicago, IL. Overall, players from 10 different af2 clubs are represented on this special squad consisting of the league's top two-way players. Johnson was the only lineman in af2 to be named to the team.
Johnson appeared in all 16 games for the Barnstormers this season , excelling at multiple positions. At 6'2" 335lbs, his primary role was as a Defensive Lineman, where he started every game. Johnson accumulated 19 tackles, including 9 that went for a loss, along with 8 sacks, good for second on the team. He also spent time as an offensive lineman in short-yardage situations and was a tackle on all field goal and PAT attempts. When starter J.J. Payne went down with a foot injury, Johnson filled in as the Barnstormers new starting FB. Once again, he performed brilliantly as a run blocker. He even got to carry the ball four times in short yardage situations, scoring two touchdowns. Johnson is a three-year veteran of af2, following a four-year standout career at Northern Iowa University. A complete list of those named to the af2 All-Ironman Team can be found below.
