Lancaster Stormers News Release

Yoslan Herrera struck out Eddie Perez with the tying run in scoring position for the final out as the Lancaster Barnstormers trimmed the Camden Riversharks, 5-3, Sunday afternoon at Campbell's Field.

The victory snapped a three-game skid for the Barnstormers, who stayed within one game of Sugar Land in the Freedom Division.

Camden trailed, 5-1, and had only rapped out three singles off four Lancaster pitchers entering the bottom of the ninth. Manny Mayorsen greeted Herrera with a double down the left field line, and the right-hander, appearing in his first non-save situation, walked the next two batters. Paddy Matera popped up to short for the first out. Herrera was able to record the second out on Johnny Drennen's sacrifice fly to center, but Raul Padron sliced a double into the left field corner to cut the lead to 5-3. Herrera survived, striking out Perez on three pitches to end the afternoon.

The Barnstormers jumped on Mike McGuire (0-1) for two runs in the first. Blake Gailen started the uprising with a two-out single to left. Travis Denker dropped a double down the right field line, and both runners scored on a ground single into right by Kevin Howard.

Denker stretched the lead to 3-0 in the third, knocking in Jerry Owens with a long double to right. Owens singled with the bases loaded in the sixth for a 4-0 lead, and Lancaster's final run was forced home when Olmo Rosario was hit by a pitch.

Camden was blanked on one hit over the first five innings by Will Savage (2-0). Derrick Loop was nicked for an unearned run in the sixth. Jason Urquidez and Tim Dillard pitched a scoreless frame each.

The Barnstormers will travel to Texas on Monday to open a six-game series with the Sugar Land Skeeters Tuesday morning. Dwayne Pollok and Matt Wright, each 2-0 on the season, will square off at 11:05 CDT. Fans may tune into 1600-AM, WPDC, beginning at 11:45 EDT for the play-by-play action.

NOTES: Howard had his second three-hit game of the season...Barnstormers pitchers combined for a season-high 11 strikeouts...Gailen stole second and third in the fifth inning and leads the league with seven stolen bases on the year...Urquidez has not allowed a hit in four appearances...The series was completed without either team hitting a home run.
