Lancaster Stormers News Release
Camden struck for nine early runs on Saturday evening en route to a 9-4 victory over the visiting Barnstormers in the middle game of a three-game series at Campbell's Field.
The loss was the third straight for Lancaster and dropped the Barnstormers into a second place tie with Somerset in the Freedom Division. Both clubs stand one game behind Sugar Land.
The Riversharks jumped on starter Alan Johnson (0-1) for four runs in the first inning. Yasser Gomez bounded a single through the right side of the infield, and one out later, Johnny Drennen followed with a line drive base hit. Raul Padron walked to load the bases, and Eduardo Perez put Camden on top with the first of his four hits, a two-run single to right. Padron scored as well when the Perez hit bounced through Ryan Harvey and went all the way to the track in right field. Perez, after taking third on the play, scored the fourth run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to left by Tommy Mensonca.
An RBI single up the middle by Gomez in the second stretched the lead to 5-0. Johnson seemed to settle down, retiring six of seven, including the first two batters of the fourth inning, but he never picked up another out. After walking Gomez, the right-hander gave up a string of four singles that pushed the Camden lead to 7-0. Ross Peeples entered in relief and hit Mensonca to force the eighth run home. Manuel Mayorsen drew a walk on a full count pitch for a 9-0 lead.
The Barnstormers ended their scoreless inning streak at 25 with a three-run fifth off Ryan Kulik (1-0). Joe Mather crushed a one-out double to deep left center, and Kody Kirkland followed with a walk. Both runners scored ahead of Olmo Rosario's booming double to left. Rosario later scored on a single to right by Jerry Owens.
Lancaster and Camden wrap up the three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:35. Will Savage (1-0) makes the start for the Barnstormers against right-hander Mike McGuire (0-0). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC, 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app beginning at 1:15.
