York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution earned their first series win of the 2013 season, and head home with a winning record thanks to a 9-7 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish on Sunday afternoon at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Now 6-5 after winning three of five games on their first road trip of the season, the Revs will return to Sovereign Bank Stadium to open a season-long 10-game homestand on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. when they host the Camden Riversharks.
York jumped to a quick first inning lead, as Brian Burgamy drilled a two-run homer to right field, his first of the season. Jason Repko later worked a bases loaded walk, spotting the Revs a 3-0 advantage. Bluefish starter Wardell Starling (0-1) only lasted the first inning, suffering the loss.
Revs starter Matt Fox came back on short rest to go two innings, combining with seven relievers to keep the Revs in front to stay. Fox allowed only a second inning run when Daniel Mayora doubled, stole third, and scored on a ground ball by Luis Rodriguez. The eight total pitchers used in the game tied a Revolution club record.
Andy Marte connected on a two-run homer to left in the top of the fourth to increase the lead, which grew again when Marte picked up a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Two more came home in the seventh as Repko crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and Eric Patterson added another sac fly to make it an 8-1 game.
The insurance runs proved vital, as Bridgeport scored three times in the seventh and ninth innings. Austin Krum drove in a two-out run in the seventh on a hard one-hop infield single that bounced off first baseman Johan Limonta. Prentice Redman followed with a two-run homer to left, cutting the lead to 8-4.
Repko gave the Revs one last boost with his first home run of the season, a line drive to left field in the top of the ninth for a 9-4 lead.
Bridgeport brought the winning run to the plate, scoring three times with two outs in the ninth inning. Matt Spencer kept the game alive with a two-run single to right, and after Mayora reached on a broken bat single, Rodriguez ripped an RBI knock through the right side to make it a two-run game. Reliever Stephen Penney bounced back to retire pinch-hitter Luis Lopez on a game-ending fielder's choice, however, earning his first save and securing the Revs' third set of back-to-back wins already on the young season.
Yunior Novoa (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, as the first of seven relievers used in the game by manager Mark Mason.
Corey Thurman (1-1, 2.08) will start Tuesday's opening game against Camden's Brian Bass (0-2, 5.40) at Sovereign Bank Stadium. It is a Corey Thurman's Healthy Kids Club Night, and a Fill Your Tummy Tuesday. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
