Barnstormers Drop Extra Inning Pair

Lancaster Stormers News Release

Lenin Rodriguez provided the difference in Thursday night's regularly scheduled game with a two-out RBI double in the top of the eighth as the York Revolution swept a pair from the Lancaster Barnstormers at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Rodriguez' double provided enough of a cushion for the Revs as they took the seven-inning game, 5-4, in eight innings.

Earlier, the Revs wasted no time in finishing off the Barnstormers in Wednesday night's suspended game, holding on for the 9-8 win.

Isaac Sanchez (3-0, 4-0) took second base to begin the eighth inning for York, and the Revolution moved him around on a grounder by Josue Herrera and Osmy Gregorio's sac fly to right on a sinking liner to Blake Gailen.

Between those two plate appearances though was an intentional walk to J.C. Encarnacion. That came back to haunt Lancaster as it was Encarnacion who raced all the way home from first on the Rodriguez double to the left field corner off Gabriel Moya (3-1).

Blake Allemand doubled home Caleb Gindl to open the bottom of the eighth, and it looked promising that the Barnstormers would, at minimum tie the game. Closer Jim Fuller retired Alejandro De Aza on a shallow fly to left. Blake Gailen popped up on the left side. Allemand scooted to third on a wild pitch, but Fuller retired Kelly Dugan on a liner to left to end the night.

Consecutive homers by Jack Kenley and Melky Mesa staked York to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, and the Revs put a third run on the board in the fourth inning on a walk, wild pitch, passed ball and Encarnacion's grounder to first.

Lancaster whittled away in the fifth picking up a run on Jake Hoover's single down the right field line that scored LeDarious Clark who had doubled to left.

The Barnstormers forged the tie in the fifth inning. Gailen ripped a double into the right field corner and scored on Dugan's single to center. After Dugan advanced to second on a wild pitch, pinch hitter Devon Torrence knotted the score on a single stroked to right center.

In the suspended game, York had carried the 9-8 lead over from Wednesday. Clark stood at first base with one out in the 11th as play resumed. The runner started and was cut down at second by Rodriguez. Pitcher Donald Goodson, in the game at third, struck out to end the inning as Victor Cappelan earned his second save.

Alberto Rodriguez (6-3) notched the win over Gailen (0-1).

Lancaster opens a four-game, three-day series against Long Island Friday night at 6:30. Zach Smith (1-3) will make the start against right-hander Brendan Feldmann (5-3). Fans not at the game may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel at 6:25.

NOTES: The Barnstormers have lost seven of their last eighth...Regular game starter Cameron Gann fanned eight in five innings and has now struck out 33 in 23.1 innings as a Barnstormer...York has taken the lead in the War of the Roses at 11-10...Alejandro De Aza has hit safely in 14 of 16.
