Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Lancaster Barnstormers ended the first half of the calendar on an upbeat note.

Home runs by Andrew Clark and Brock Kjeldgaard plus a quality start from Chris Schwinden lifted Lancaster to a 6-3 victory over the first half champion York Revolution Sunday afternoon at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Lancaster "finished" the first half with a 39-30 record, though, technically, the first game of a doubleheader on July 30 in Somerset will count toward the first half final record. They are 1 1/2 games behind the Revolution.

With the Barnstormers down, 1-0, heading into the bottom of the third, Casey Frawley and Lance Zawadzki rapped out singles against Corey Thurman (3-2). Zawadzki stole second with his kid brother, Grant, at the plate. Thurman struck out the younger Zawadzki looking and Cole Garner swinging. The York legend could not get through Clark as the Lancaster DH launched a home run into the right center screen for a 3-1 lead.

Kjeldgaard added a two-run shot just over the picnic wall the next inning, following a walk to Fred Lewis, for a 5-1 cushion.

Schwinden (8-1) gave up six hits and a run over six innings. The lead was put in jeopardy in the top of the fifth when the right-hander walked Brandon Chaves as the leadoff batter. One out later, Wilson Valdez slapped a single into right. Eric Patterson's grounder was fumbled by the elder Zawadzki for an error. Schwinden induced a pop up out of Chad Tracy, and Johan Limonta hit Valdez with a ground ball to end the threat.

York pulled tighter on a two-run homer by Slavador Paniagua off Fu-Te Ni in the eighth. Jason Richardson came on to get the final four outs for his first save.

Lancaster opens a three-game set at Camden on Monday evening. The Barnstormers will send left-hander Brandon Mann (1-1) to the mound. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app.

NOTES: Lance Zawadzki extended his hitting streak to seven...Grant doubled in his first professional at bat...He is a recent product of Bryan College in Dayton, TN...Garner doubled in the fifth and has now batted safely in 17 of 18...Schwinden posted his sixth quality start and, at least temporarily, tied for the league lead in wins...Clark's homer was his first extra base hit since June 19.
