
Skeeters Take Down Blue Crabs 6-1 in Series Finale

Despite falling in Game 2 of the double header yesterday, Sugar Land was able to even the series with a 6-1 victory over Southern Maryland. The club now holds a 10-3 record against the host team so far this season and a 39-31 record overall.
Steve Hammond (8.0,2,1,1,2,8) pitched an impressive 8.0 innings, only allowing one run on two hits and a season high eight strikeouts. After earing the win today in the first game of the second half of the season, The Skeeters have now won the past seven games with Hammond as their starter.
Second baseman Delwyn Young (2x4, 2 RBI) led off the top of the second inning with a double deep to right field. First baseman Nick Stavinoha (2x4, RBI) then followed suit as the next batter to the plate and also hit a double to right field, which allowed Young to cross the plate for the first run or the game.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, third baseman Chase Lambin (1x4, R, RBI) sent a solo-shot over the wall to give theSkeeters a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.
Young kept the ball rolling in the top of the fourth with a lead-off single to right fieldbefore catcher Travis Scott (1x3, R, RBI) brought him home with a double to right, making it a 3-1 ball game. Scott then reached third on a fielder's choice hit from left fielder Neil Medchill (0x4). Right fielder Michael Rockett (1x4, R, 2 RBI) hit his seventh homer of the season for a two-run bomb over the left field fence, adding two more runs to the board.
In the top of the fifth, designated hitter Brian Barton (1x4, R, RBI) hit his first ever homer with Sugar Land for the sixth and final run of the game.
Brian Broderick (1.0,1,0,0,1,2) took over the mound in the final inning after a solid performance by Hammond. The right-hander threw 1.0 inning and only allowed one hit and no runs with two batters retired. Broderick has not allowed an earned run in his last nine appearances after the scoreless inning pitched in today's game.

On the Road Again:
Sugar Land will be on the road once more tomorrow night as they start a new three-game series against Long Island with Game 1 set to start at 6:05 p.m. CT. at Bethpage Ballpark. Right-hander David Pauley (6-5, 2.50 ERA) will start on the hill for the Skeeters in the opening game of the series and will face righty Jared Lansford (3-3,3.37 ERA) as the team looks to win their second game in a row.
