Banjo Bowl will be music to ears of Bomber fans

WINNIPEG, MB - Get ready to do some pickin' and a grinnin' as the 2007 CANWEST BANJO BOWL WEEKEND is right around the corner.

The fun will begin FRIDAY, SEPT. 7 with the CASINOS OF WINNIPEG BANJO BOWL FIESTA at Jaguars Dance Club at Club Regent Casino. Admission to this kickoff event for the Canwest Banjo Bowl Weekend is free to anyone who shows their ticket to the Sept. 9 game between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the archrival Saskatchewan Roughriders.

In keeping with the Fiesta theme, there will be a free Mayan Taco Bar for the first 300 CanWest Banjo Bowl ticket-holders beginning at 6:30 p.m. Door will officially open at 7:30 p.m. Members of the Labatt Blue Lightning Dance Team will be on hand to greet fans in attendance and to perform some of their routines. Meanwhile, local band Free Ride will take to the stage at 8:30 p.m. to perform a medley of hits.

The fun doesn't stop there. On SATURDAY, SEPT. 8 the Winnipeg Sun Centre at Canad Inns Stadium will host a Legends Brunch beginning at 11 a.m. in the Winnipeg Sun Centre at Canad Inns Stadium. The brunch will be an opportunity for football fans to mingle with past Blue Bomber and Roughrider greats like James Murphy, Trevor Kennerd, Willard Reaves, Steve Mazurak and Dan Rashovich. Tickets for the breakfast are $39.95 plus GST each and are available now at Ticketmaster outlets or on-line at www.ticketmaster.ca.

Football fans will also have an opportunity to meet current Bomber greats like Milt Stegall, Charles Roberts, Kevin Glenn, Doug Brown and Barrin Simpson later that day when the football club hosts an autograph session in the south end of Canad Inns Stadium. The first 5,000 fans attending Saturday's Family Fun Day will receive a free team poster. Admission to Family Fun Day is free prior to 5 p.m.

There will be live entertainment in at Canad Inns Stadium later that afternoon featuring a number of local acts beginning at 1 p.m including Carabello, Purity, Playing Cards, Keith and Rene and The D Rangers.

In the evening, Canadian rockers 54.40 will headline the final outdoor concert of the summer in an intimate concert setting in the south end of Canad Inns Stadium. They will be joined by guests the Waking Eyes and Sons of York.

The fun continues on Sunday when the archrival Blue Bombers and Roughriders hook-up for their annual post-Labour Day battle at 3 p.m. at Canad Inns Stadium. The winning team in Sunday's game will receive $10,000 from CanWest for the United Way campaign in their home province.

Sunday's game will feature a half-time performance by blue grass band D Rangers and is presented by the Casinos of Winnipeg.
