Gass suspension rescinded
August 29, 2007 - Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release
Toronto, ON (August 29, 2007) - The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced today that pursuant to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, an independent arbitrator has reviewed the one-game suspension of A.J. Gass and has rescinded the suspension and imposed a monetary fine in its place.
Gass's suspension was originally imposed by the CFL on August 8, 2007 for throwing an opponent's helmet in a game against the Calgary Stampeders on August 4, 2007.
Michael Copeland, the CFL Chief Operating Officer, stated, "This type of dangerous action has no place in our game and must be strongly discouraged. We are very disappointed in the decision, however, we respect the jurisdiction of the arbitrator in this regard."
