
Bangor Unleashes 17 Hits In Victory Over Jackals

Little Falls, NJ- The Lumberjacks scored seven runs in the first two innings, and defeat the Jackals by a score of 9-4.
Bangor wanted to please their crowd in their Home Opener, and they started the scoring early in the first. The Lumberjacks notched 3 consecutive hits off of New Jersey starter Juan Guzman, topped off by an RBI double by Jake Whiteside, to give Bangor a 1-0 lead. Donnie Ross then made it a 2-0 lead by singling into left field.
The barrage of runs continued in the second inning, with the Lumberjacks sending ten batters to the plate. Second baseman Brad Hargreaves singled to lead off the inning, which turned it over to the top of the order for Shin Uchino, who hit a long homerun to left field, to make it 4-0 in favor of the Lumberjacks. It did not stop there. Jake Whitesides and Mark Burke both reached base on two out walks, and catcher Ryan Sienko made Guzman pay. Sienko hit a three run homer to dead center field, to make it 7-0
The Jackals would finally put a run up on the board in the top of the fourth. Craig Conway singled, and advanced to third on a Kevin Grijak double. The following batter Wady Almonte grounded out softly to second, allowing Conway to cross home plate.
New Jersey would attempt to mount a two out rally in the sixth. Scott Goodman, and Kevin Grijak reached walks to give New Jersey two baserunners. Almonte then smashed a three run homer to left field, to make it 7-4 in favor of the Lumberjacks.
Bangor would add one run in the sixth and seventh, to put the game out of reach.
Bangor starting pitcher Matt Scheuing was awarded the victory, his second, and Juan Guzman got his second loss of 2004 for New Jersey.
For, Bangor, Jose Garcia was 4-5 with three singles and a double. Shortstop Shin Uchino was 3-4 with a single, double, homerun and two RBI.
For New Jersey, Wady Almonte was 2-4 with three RBI.
The Jackals return home on Monday June 7, 2004 as the Brockton Rox come to town to start a three game set. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call the Jackals Ticket Office at (973) 746-7434.
