Rox Down Cutters; End Streak

West Haven, CT-The Brockton Rox put an end to the Cutters seven game winning streak on Thursday with an 8-4 victory in front of 923 at Yale Field.

Brockton starter Kevin Lynn (1-1) allowed three runs in six innings, scattering eleven hits and striking out four to earn the win. Rox catcher Brian Jones went 1-for-4 with three RBIs including a two run homerun in the fifth. First basemen Craig Lewis hit his fourth homerun of the year, a three run shot in the sixth off New Haven reliever A.J. Brack.

The Rox grabbed a 1-0 lead off Cutters starter Skip Wiley (1-1) in the first on Aaron Fera's RBI groundout scoring Saul Bustos. Wiley left the game after the first with an injury and was replaced by left hander Scott Meyer. The Rox scored two unearned runs off Meyer in the second on an Abner Arroyo RBI sac-fly and a Bustos RBI single.

In the fourth, P.J. Johnston's bases loaded double cut the the Rox lead to 3-2. Brockton then regained their three run lead on Jones' two run homer off Meyer and extended the lead to 8-2 on Lewis' three run blast of Brack.

After scoring two more runs, the Cutters brought the potential tying run to the plate in the form of Tyrone Pendergrass. Rox reliever Matt Bennett struck out the centerfielder to end the game.

New Haven short-stop Jose Mateo went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and catcher Adam Shorsher collected three singles in the loss.
