North Shore Spirit News Release

On Thursday, June 10th, the North Shore Spirit are pleased to highlight the Lynn Community Health Center's REACH OUT AND READ program. Bring at least one GENTLY USED children's picture book in good condition to the ballpark and receive $1 off the price of your admission.

"We are happily surprised and delighted by North Shore Spirit's dedication to not only our literacy program, but to the local schools' reading programs. Communities need this kind of partnership to tackle problems and reach goals", says Gretchen Hunsberger, Coordinator of the Reach Out and Read program at LCHC. "We look forward to collecting lots of books on June 10th, thanks to the Spirit's support."

Kids who learn to read on schedule do better in school and in life. LCHC's Reach Out and Read (ROR) program gets books into the hands of local kids. Doctors talk to parents about how important it is for them to read aloud to their infants and young children.

"The Spirit takes great pride in partnering with North Shore programs, especially those organizations which promote learning and the betterment of the lives of the children in our communities," stated Chris Ames, Director of Entertainment with the North Shore Spirit.

ROR promotes literacy and language development by providing children free access to books, starting at 6 months of age. Every child who visits the health center may take home a used book. In this way, Lynn Community Health Center helps families build home libraries. To do all this, LCHC must collect over 15,000 gently used children's books every year. Volunteers are also needed to read to children in LCHC waiting rooms. Help show children and parents alike how much fun it is to read together. For more information about how you can help ROR, call Gretchen Hunsberger 781-596-2502 x731.

The North Shore Spirit, a member of the Northeast League, play their home games at the new Fraser Field in Lynn, Massachusetts. Season and individual tickets can be purchased online at www.northshorespirit.com, at the Spirit box office at 365 Western Ave or by calling 781-592-0007.

All games will once again be broadcast on the flagship station of the North Shore Spirit, WESX 1230-AM.
