Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

LAFAYETTE, LA - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (16-8-1) used a three-goal second period to down the Louisiana IceGators (10-13-3) 3-2 on Saturday night. The win moved the Ice Flyers into the second place in the SPHL.

After a scoreless opening frame, things got interesting in the second period. Louisiana scored first with a goal by Dan Cornell 1:17 into the period. The Ice Flyers tied it up at one thanks to a power play goal by Joe Caveney, assisted by Corey Banfield, with 13:40 left in second. The Ice Flyers then capitalized on the newly gained momentum to go up 2-1 with an unassisted goal by Stephen Buco just three seconds later. The Ice Flyers continued to establish momentum by netting a late power play goal off the stick of Banfield. The goal came with just 24 seconds left in the second and was assisted by Adam Pawlick and Cole Ruwe.

Louisiana started to claw their way back into the game and cashed in with a goal by Jake Hauswirth with 8:35 left in the third. Despite the goal, they couldn't complete the comeback as the Ice Flyers and goalie John McLean were able to shut the door with Louisiana goalie Brad Barone pulled late in favor of an extra attacker for the last 1:33.

McLean stopped 27 of the 29 shots he faced to earn his eighth win of the season and improve to 8-2-0 on the season. Banfield was Pensacola's only representative on the Three Stars are he was named the third star.

The Ice Flyers will be on the road again next weekend as they travel to Fayetteville, N.C. to take on the Fayetteville FireAntz Friday and Saturday inside the Crown Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Central both nights. Watch Parties for both games will be held at New York Nick's downtown and the 9 Mile Rd. Beef 'O' Brady's location.
