Bandits Drop Second Straight with Extra-Inning 7-6 Loss

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits dropped their second straight game at home to the South Bend Silver Hawks on Wednesday night. The Bandits out-hit South Bend 15-11 but were unable to even the series after the Silver Hawks' right-fielder Alberto Diaz hit a solo home run in the 10th to edge the Bandits 7-6. The Bandits left a season-high 14 men on base in the loss.

Dan Calhoun (4-0) stayed undefeated but was unable to pick up his fifth win after throwing three and a third innings for Quad Cities. He surrendered three runs, two earned on six hits. Justin Smith kept the Silver Hawks at bay, throwing 1.2 hitless innings in relief. Joe Kelly gave up three runs, two earned, in three innings out of the Bandits' pen, while Jesse Simpson (3-1) was charged with his first loss of the season. He surrendered just one run on a solo homer and fanned four in just two innings of work for Quad Cities.

The River Bandits had a multitude of standouts at the plate in Wednesday's game. Five Bandits had multi-hit days including three with a trio of base knocks. Niko Vasquez led the way with a 3-for-5 night including a pair of doubles and an RBI. Ryde Rodriguez and Michael Swinson each went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Rodriguez slugged a double while Swinson added his third triple of the season. Frederick Parejo had a pair of extra base-hits including his first round-tripper of the season in his 2-for-5 performance.

Bradin Hagens (1-3) earned his first victory of the season, pitching the final two innings for the Silver Hawks. He surrendered a run in the ninth but picked up the win after Alberto Diaz hit a solo homer in the extra frame that was necessary for Wednesday's match-up.

The River Bandits attempt to salvage the final game of the three game set with the Silver Hawks on Thirst-day Thursday at Modern Woodmen Park. Quad Cities is sending right-hander Scott Schneider (5-1) to duke it out with fellow righty Scottie Allen (2-1). Fans can enjoy drink specials throughout the game slated to start at 7:00 p.m.
