Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, AR - The depth of the Naturals batting order provided plenty of offense to propel Northwest Arkansas (9-16, 49-46) to a 6-4 win over Tulsa (13-13, 43-52) at Arvest Ballpark on Wednesday night. Raul Mondesi homered and drove in two, Frank Schwindel went 3 for 4 with three runs scored, and Parker Morin went 2 for 4 with two RBI on the night to fuel the offensive attack.
After being shutout in last night's game, the Tulsa offense wasted no time in getting on the board on Wednesday night as shortstop Ronald Torreyes drove the third pitch of the game over the left field wall for a lead-off home run and an early 1-0 lead.
Christian Binford (4-4, 4.72 ERA) would settle down for the Naturals and the offense would answer the early Drillers' run in the bottom of the second. Frank Schwindel jump started the offense with a single to left field to advance Lane Adams, who reached on a wild pitch on a strikeout, to second base. Two batters later, Ramon Torres singled up the middle with two outs to score Adams and tie the game at 1. After a two out walk to Raul Mondesi loaded the bases, Hunter Dozier was hit by a pitch to score Schwindel and make it 2-1.
The Naturals would use more two out offense to tack on another run in the home half of the third as Schwindel singled to left. That brought up Parker Morin to the plate and he delivered with an RBI triple down the right field corner to make it a 3-1 lead. Tulsa though would answer in the fifth collected a pair of runs on a Torreyes RBI single and a Lars Anderson sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3 all.
Northwest Arkansas would grab the lead back in the bottom of the fifth inning as Lane Adams provided a one out double to center field. Scwhindel followed with his third single of the night to move Adams to third before Morin delivered for a second time with an RBI single to right field to make it a one run game. After a Gabriel Noriega single loaded the bases, Mondesi worked a walk to score Adams to make it 5-3 in favor of the Naturals and ultimately end the night of Chris Anderson (9-6, 3.62 ERA), the Tulsa starter.
With the game still a two score affair entering the bottom of the eighth, top prospect Raul Mondesi gave the Naturals an insurance run. The 19 year old connected on a 1-2 pitch to drive a solo home run over the right-field wall off of Jorge De Leon to make it a 6-3 game. The Naturals showed balance throughout their lineup as eight out of the nine batters recorded at least one hit on the night.
Binford earned the win as he gave the Naturals another strong outing by going seven innings. The tall right-hander gave up only three runs on seven hits and struck out one on the night. J.C. Sulbaran (H, 2) earned his second hold of the season with a scoreless eighth and Sam Selman (S, 2) ended the 6-4 game with his second save of the season for Northwest Arkansas.
Tonight's game against the Tulsa Drillers concluded the Naturals 4-game homestand. Northwest Arkansas will begin a 7-game road trip in Springfield tomorrow night. On the trip, the Naturals will face the Cardinals for four (4) games before traveling to North Little Rock for three (3) games against the Travelers. The Naturals will then return home for a 7-game homestand beginning on Thursday, July 30.
