July 22, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Tulsa Drillers concluded a four-game series in Northwest Arkansas Wednesday night with a second straight loss. The Naturals salvaged a series split against the Drillers with a 6-4 win at Arvest Ballpark.
Tulsa won the first two games of the series with its North Divisions rivals before dropping the final two games.
For the third time this season, Ronald Torreyes got the Drillers off to a fast start by leading off the game with a home run. It was the third homer of the year for Torreyes with the first two coming on the first pitches of games. This time, the Tulsa shortstop waited until the third pitch from Northwest Arkansas starter Christian Binford to open the scoring.
The Naturals took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. The inning began when Lane Adams struck out, but was able to reach first base safely on what was ruled a wild pitch. Frank Schwindel singled before Chris Anderson retired the next two hitters. With two outs, Ramon Torres singled home a run to tie the score. Anderson then walked Raul Mondesi before hitting Hunter Dozier with a pitch to force home the second run.
The Naturals made it 3-1 with a two-out rally in the third. With the bases empty, Schwindel singled and scored when Parker Morin tripled him home.
The Drillers battled back to tie the score with a two-run fifth. Adam Law singled and scored on a base hit by Torreyes. Erisbel Arruebarrena doubled to put runners at second third. After Brian Burgamy walked to load the bases, Lars Anderson plated Torreyes with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-3.
Northwest Arkansas answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Adams doubled and moved to third on another hit from Schwindel. Morin singled home Adams before Gabriel Noriega singled to load the bases. Chris Anderson's night ended when he again walked Mondesi to force in another run that gave the Naturals a 5-3 lead.
The score remained the same until Mondesi struck in the eighth. The shortstop belted his fifth home run of the year, a solo shot that upped the Naturals lead to 6-3.
Arruebarrena singled home a run to close out the scoring in the top of the ninth.
It was a difficult outing for Chris Anderson who threw a nine-inning complete game in his last start. The Tulsa hurler lasted only 4.2 innings and surrendered 5 runs on 10 hits. The loss dropped his record to 9-6.
Ryan Dennick relieved Anderson and retired all seven batters he faced. Jorge De Leon worked the eighth and surrendered the home run to Mondesi.
Arruebarrena enjoyed his first multi-hit game as a Driller, finishing 3-5. Torreyes and Lars Anderson picked up two hits each.
Tulsa now returns home for a big seven-game homestand with Arkansas and Springfield. The stand begins with a four-game set with the Travelers. In the opener Thursday night at ONEOK Field, Jairo Heredia (0-2, 3.72 ERA) is expected to make the start for the Drillers against Michael Brady (4-4, 3.09 ERA) of the Travs. Starting time is scheduled for 7:05PM.
