
Bakersfield's Slow Start Leads to 101-88 Loss to Reno

BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Jam (12-22) fell to the Reno Bighorns (20-13) Friday night at the Dignity Health Event Center, 101-88. Five Jam players scored in double-figures, led by Billy Baptist's 18 to go along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Reno took full advantage of a poorly executed first quarter by the Jam as Bakersfield got outscored 32-17 in the opening quarter and shot just 33 percent from the floor, while the Bighorns shot 67 percent. In addition, the Jam committed eight turnovers in that first period. Reno increased their lead to as many as 21 in the second quarter, by 22 in the third and again by 21 in the final frame. The closest Bakersfield got in the second half was within 12 points late in the fourth quarter.
Overall, the Bighorns shot better from the field (52.6%-44.7%) and held the edge in points in the paint (60-54) and fast break points (16-12). The Jam had their worst 3-point shooting performance of the season, making just 1-of-19 attempts from beyond the arc.
Terrel Harris posted 17 points while Jerel McNeal added 16 points, six assists and three steals. In addition, Ike Diogu finished with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Markeith Cummings added 12 points.
Trent Lockett and K.C. Rivers both carried the Reno Bighorns with 18 points each. Sundiate Gaines had 14 points six rebounds and six assists. Mickell Gladness tallied 12 points.
Bakersfield's next game is on Sunday, March 2 at 4:00 p.m. PST against the Delaware 87ers at the Dignity Health Event Center.
