D-Fenders Fall to Legends in Overtime

FRISCO, TX - The Los Angeles D-Fenders were defeated by the Texas Legends 137-126 in overtime on Saturday night.

In the first quarter, the D-Fenders (20-15) and the Legends (17-22) started slowly from the floor, totaling only 19 points combined through the first six minutes. That style of play was quickly reversed as the two teams combined for 33 points over the final six minutes of the first period, leading to an early two-point deficit for Los Angeles. The D-Fenders allowed Texas to extend their lead to nine early in the second frame, but Los Angeles bounced back swiftly with a 9-2 run and finished the half tied with the Legends at 56. Overall, the D-Fenders shot 38.2 percent from the floor and forced Texas into nine turnovers in the first half.

Los Angeles and Texas continued to match each other blow-for-blow in the third quarter as both teams converted 13 field goals and five three-pointers each, leaving the two teams tied at 88 entering the final frame. In the fourth quarter, the D-Fenders fell behind by as many as 10 points and trailed by five points with 47 seconds remaining in the game. A James Southerland three-pointer and a Manny Harris lay-up in the waning moments brought Los Angeles even with Texas forcing an overtime period.

In the overtime period, the D-Fenders allowed the Legends to go on an 8-0 run through the initial minute and a half. Los Angeles was never able to recover and ended up being outscored 16-5 in extra time for their 15th loss of the season.

The league's leading scorer, Manny Harris, led the way for the D-Fenders with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Also finishing in double-digits for Los Angeles were Terrence Williams (27 points), Shawne Williams (20 points, six rebounds), Lakers assignment player Xavier Henry (19 points) and James Southerland (14 points). Josh Magette also pitched in 11 assists for the D-Fenders.

Finishing with a triple-double, Dallas Mavericks assignment player Jae Crowder (22 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists) led the charge for the Legends. P.J. Hairston (36 points), Damion James (34 points, nine rebounds), fellow assignment player Shane Larkin (22 points, 10 rebounds, six assists) and James Nunnally (14 points, eight rebounds) also finished in double-digits for Texas.

In total, Los Angeles was out-performed in field goal percentage (53.3-43.2), three-point percentage (46.4-40.5), free-throw percentage (71.8-68.2), rebounds (55-40) and assists (30-22) on the night. In addition, Los Angeles allowed 44 fast-break points compared to the D-Fenders 23.

Los Angeles will now come back home to take on the Delaware 87ers on Monday, March 3rd, at 7:00pm, at Toyota Sports Center, in El Segundo, California.
