Bakersfield Acquires Von Wafer

BAKERSFIELD, January 10, 2014 - The Bakersfield Jam have acquired guard Von Wafer from the NBA Development League's available player pool, it was announced today.

"We are excited to add Von to our team," said head coach Will Voigt. "He is a NBA caliber player that we feel will be a great addition to our group."

Wafer (6-5, 210, Florida State) was originally selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round (39^th pick overall) of the 2005 NBA Draft. Most recently, the Florida State product played in China for the Shanghai Sharks and averaged 27.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.8 steals in five games. In the 2012-13 season, Wafer had a stint with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers (China) where he played in 34 games and averaged 26.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals. He has also played in Greece and Italy.

The Homer, Louisiana native has played for seven NBA teams in six seasons: Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Portland Trailblazers, Houston Rockets, Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic. He holds career averages of 5.3 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 12.4 minutes.

Wafer played in 61 games during his two-year career at Florida State University and posted averages of 10.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 21.7 minutes.

In addition to acquiring Wafer, the Jam have waived guard Carlos Strong due to a season ending injury.

Wafer will wear number 24 and is expected to be in uniform for tonight's game when the Jam host the Reno Bighorns at 7:00 p.m. PST.
