Baker Guides Chicago Dogs to 2-1 Victory

May 30, 2024 - American Association (AA)
Chicago Dogs News Release

John Baker's mound consistencies continue, as Baker guides Chicago Dogs to 2-1 victory over Cleburne.

John Baker is not a new name to the Chicago Dogs. The righty pitcher first played with the organization in 2021, appearing in 21 games.

Baker's return to Rosemont has been full of excitement. The starter has been extremely consistent, entering game three of the series with a 2.75 ERA over three games started.

The recent success for Baker carried on throughout his fourth start of the season. Despite allowing a solo home run in the second inning to Alexander Hill, Baker recovered quickly, ultimately throwing seven innings of one run ball, striking out six.

The Dogs' offense wasn't loud throughout the game, only scoring on two occasions. Johnni Turbo came up big for the Dogs, hitting one to the wall in right field, racing all the way to third for a triple. Turbo scored two at bat's later, after Blake Grant-Parks advanced to first on a fielder's choice.

The second and final run for Chicago wasn't scored until the seventh inning, when Jacob Teter led off with a single to right field. Teter proceeded to steal second, and found himself at home after advancing to third and home following wild pitches.

The two runs scored for Chicago were protected by Dogs closer Joey Marciano. Dogs pitching coach Stu Cliburn turned to his trusty reliever in the eighth inning. Despite an early call for the closer, Marciano was up for it, throwing two innings of hitless pitching, getting the save.

The Dogs will look to even the series tomorrow night under the lights, with lefty Brooks Gosswein slated to start on the mound.
