Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees announced Monday that RiverDogs first baseman Brian Baisley and infielder Walter Ibarra have been transferred to Class-A Advanced Tampa. Taking their place on the active roster will be infielders Addison Maruszak and Corban Joseph, who join the RiverDogs after being transferred from Tampa and Extended Spring Training, respectively.
Baisley lead the team and shares the South Atlantic League lead with 23 RBI while playing stellar defense at first base. He leaves the "Holy City" with a .339 (37x109) batting average, 12 doubles and two home runs. The University of Central Florida product also slugged .472 in addition to a .460 on-base percentage in 29 games with Charleston.
Ibarra gives the Tampa Yankees flexibility as the 5-11 infielder has played every infield position while with Charleston in '09. Through 12 games with the RiverDogs, Ibarra has a .241 (7x29) batting average with four doubles, one triple and eight RBI.
Maruszak joins the RiverDogs after struggling with Class-A Advanced Tampa. In 24 games with Tampa the Pinellas Park, Fla. native has a .148 batting average (12x81) with one double and four RBI. In 2008 with short-season Staten Island, Maruszak was a New York-Penn League All Star selection hitting .317 (53x167) with six home runs and 25 RBI in 44 games.
Joseph leaves Extended Spring Training to join the RiverDogs. The Franklin, Tenn. native spent the 2008 season playing second base with the GCL Yankees where he hit .277 (44x159) with two home runs and 18 RBI.
The RiverDogs embark on an eight-game road trip through Kentucky and will return home on May 20 to open an eight-game homestand. Tickets for the homestand can be purchased by visiting the RiverDogs website at www.riverdogs.com or by calling the box office at (843) 577-DOGS.
