Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
EASTLAKE, OH - The Intimidators saw their season-long scoreless streak run to 18 1/3 innings on Monday night at Classic Park as Kannapolis dropped a 1-0 decision to Lake County.
Abner Abreu's second-inning solo home run off of Justin Edwards was all that separated the two teams. The Intimidators out-hit the Captains, 4-3, but could not find the hit to push a run across.
The home run meant a tough-luck loss for Edwards (1-1), who gave up just three hits in six innings of work. Edwards, making just his second start of the season after missing all of 2008 with Tommy John surgery, struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Mike McGwire (3-2) earned the win for the Captains in his first start of the season. The reliever was called to action because of a doubleheader last week and took full advantage, throwing five scoreless innings.
Anillins Martinez pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings and Steve Smith got the final four outs in order for his fifth save of the season.
Kannapolis (16-15) has now lost three games in a row for the second time this season and has not scored a run since the ninth inning of Saturday's 10-5 loss to the Captains (14-16).
Charlis Burdie and Nate Jones each pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen to keep the Captains lead at one.
