Lexington Legends News Release

It looked like it might be a high-scoring night after each team posted two runs in the first inning, but that 2-2 tie held until the bottom of the 14th inning when the Lexington Legends pushed across a run to beat the Charleston RiverDogs, 3-2.

In the Charleston first, Carmen Angelini singled and Dan Brewer doubled him to third. Taylor Grote walked to load the bases, and Abraham Almonte singled to drive in two runs.

The Legends tied it in the bottom half of the first. Jay Austin led off with a double, and one out later, Freddie Hernandez hit his fourth home run of the year to make it 2-2.

Charleston had a chance to move in front in the 10th, when Addison Maruszak singled and was sacrificed to second. Taylor Grote followed with a single to right, but Lexington right fielder Russ Dixon threw Maruszak out at the plate.

In the 14th inning, Lexington's Andy Simunic singled with one out and went to second on Ebert Rosario's infield out. Jorge De Leon, who had just joined the Legends earlier in the day, lined a single to right field to drive home the winning run. It was De Leon's third hit of the night.

Brian Wabick pitched three scoreless innings in relief to get the victory. Cory Arbiso (1-3) took the loss.

The two teams meet in the second of a four-game series Tuesday night at Applebee's Park. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
