Bahr Fires Six Scoreless In Win Over Potomac
June 11, 2019 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Down East Wood Ducks News Release
Woodbridge, Va. - The Wood Ducks struck for a run in the very first inning and were able to make it stand up, behind a strong pitching performance, led by Jason Bahr, as they beat the P-Nats, 1-0, to force a rubber game in the three game series.
The shutout win is the ninth of the year for the Wood Ducks (46-19), in addition to their third 1-0 win of the season.
Eric Jenkins led off the first inning with a triple into the right field corner, and came into score three batters later on a Diosbel Arias RBI fielder's choice, to take the 1-0 advantage.
Bahr (win, 6-1) was excellent on the mound. The righty, named to the All-Star team today, fired six scoreless innings, giving up three hits and three walks, and striking out seven. Bahr has fanned five or more in each of his last five starts, and has allowed two earned runs or fewer in all 11 outings this year, lowering his ERA to 1.71 on the year.
Andrew Lee (loss, 2-4) was solid but received no run support, suffering the tough luck loss. Lee tossed six innings, giving up one run on three hits, he walked one, and struck out seven.
The Wood Ducks bullpen backed Bahr's solid start. Josh Advocate worked two scoreless innings, allowing just a walk, while striking out one. Joe Kuzia (save, 4) then followed with a perfect ninth, picking up a strikeout to end the game.
The series concludes Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. when the Woodies send lefty John King (0-0, 1.67) to the hill to face off with Potomac right-hander Malvin Pena (4-3, 6.22). The broadcast will begin at 6:50 p.m. on 960AM The Bull, and online on 960thebull.com and on the MiLB First Pitch and TuneIn Radio Apps.
